Highfield Level 2 Award in Door Supervision

This course of study is referred to as “licence linked” and is the course that enables you once completed to apply for your SIA security licence to work within the security industry.

The course covers 4 mandatory modules and they are:

Module 1 – working in the Private security industry

How it is delivered? Through distance learning/Pre-course study (more information below)

Examination details? 1 Hour multi-choice examination

What is the pass mark? 28/40

Module 2 – Working as a Door Supervisor

How it is delivered? Classroom study as a series of 8 tutor led training sessions

Examination details? 1 hour 15-minute multi-choice examination

What is the pass mark? 32/45

Module 3 – Communication & Conflict Management

How is it delivered? Classroom study as a series of 4 tutor led training sessions

Examination details? 30-minute multi-choice examination

What is the pass mark? 14/20

Module 4 – Physical Intervention

How is it delivered? Classroom study part theory part practical

Examination details? True/False question paper/practical assessment of skills

What is the pass mark? 100% on true or false paper* 100% on skills demonstrated

IMPORTANT

 

Pre-Course tasking

  • Please ensure you read Module 1 & 2 in the handbook provided as you will have an examination on the module “Working Within the Private Security Industry (WIPS) You must complete 9 hours on your pre-course study.
  • We suggest carrying out internet research and other reference materials available relative to each section of the WIPS section alongside the handbook.
  • You are required to complete each Key task at the end of Module 1 & 2 As this information is required to be held by the training provider [Paratus] we have issued you a separate hard copy to complete and return. This is to be returned to Paratus on the first day of training.
  • You must also complete a further 30 minutes of Conflict Management course reading, which is covered in Module 3.
  • Again, the key tasks for this module will be provided in a separate hard copy for you to complete and return along with the key tasks for the previous modules.
  • Finally, for Module 4 you will need to complete 3 hours of study from another handbook which will also be provided, but this will be toward the end of the course for safety reasons which will be explained. A short true/false test will be issued to confirm this study has been carried out.

 

During this time, you have access to your Virtual tutor. For this course it will be Anthony. Please access the tutor if there is anything you need help with regarding these instructions, the course material, or the course itself.

English test

The SIA (Security Industry Authority) now stipulates that all course attendees complete an English test at B1 level.  Please arrange a convenient time to visit the training centre to complete this test. The English test must be completed prior to course commencement.

If you already have:

GCSE English {Equiv. or higher)

B1 level English (Equiv. or higher)

Or any other qualification you feel may supersede this requirement please contact us and provide documentary evidence.

Pen/Pencil; A4/A5 sized notepad; x1 Colour passport photograph; lunch; drinks (tea & coffee provided free of charge*).

 

Identification documentation:

It is a Security Industry Authority stipulation that all candidates can provide evidence of identity prior to course commencement. Please ensure the right Identification is brought to avoid delay and/or possible course cancellation.

 

Either 2 documents from Group A or 1 from Group A and 2 from group B:

 

GROUP A

A1          Signed valid passport of any nationality

A3         Signed UK photo driving licence (both parts required if issued by the DVA in NI) or standalone photocard driving licence (if issued by the DVLA in GB).

A4         UK birth certificate or certified copy issued within 12 months of birth, but not a photocopy.

A6         UK biometric residence permit.

Group B

B1          Valid EU photo ID card.

B2          Valid UK firearms licence with photo.

B3          Standalone photocard driving licence (if issued by the DVLA in NI) or signed paper counterpart driving licence (regardless of whether it is issued by the DVLA in GB or DVA in NI).

B4         Marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate, with translation if not in English.

B5          UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after date of birth, but not a photocopy.

B6         Non-UK birth certificate, with translation if not in English.

B7          P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months.

B8         P60 annual statement of income for tax purposes issued in the last 12 months.

B9         Bank or building society statement issued to current address, less than three months old. You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different bank or building society.

B10        Mortgage statement issued in the last 12 months.

B11         Utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, water, satellite, cable) issued to your current address within the last three months. You can only submit ONE utility bill in support of your application.

B13        Pension, endowment or ISA statement issued in the last 12 months.

B15        British work permit or visa issued in the last 12 months.

B16        Letter from H.M. Revenue and Customs, Dept of Work and Pensions, employment service or local authority issued within the last 3 months. More than one letter can be used if issued by a different government departments or different local authorities.

B17        Credit card statement sent to current address in the last 3 months. More than one statement can be used if issued by different service providers.

B18        Council Tax statement issued in the last 12 months.

B20       Child benefit book issued in the last 12 months.

B22        UK Adoption Certificate

 

What do I wear for the training?

This is a professional course, but we do want you to be comfortable, so smart casual will be fine.

General Information

 

Recognised prior learning

Paratus recognises prior learning and if you have completed any of the units (as per the timetable) already, you may be eligible for exemption from certain units. You will need to provide evidence to support this (certification). If you cannot provide evidence of this, we (with your consent) liaise with your previous training provider/awarding body to access the information.

 

Religious requirements

If you require some private time to observe your religious requirements, a private room will be made available for you if the need arises. Please inform us [Paratus] prior to course commencement of your requirements.

 

Learning requirements

If you have a learning requirement of any nature, please bring it to the attention Paratus before the start of the course. We will make every effort to ensure that your needs are catered for and will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.

We are an equal opportunity training provider, have established complaints and appeals procedure and will undertake a full health and safety brief prior to the start of training. This brief will include any known hazards within the premises at that time and the evacuation procedures/assembly points in the event of an emergency.

 

Physical Intervention training.

For safety and comfort please ensure any jewellery is removed prior to training. And any pre-existing medical conditions are brought to the attention of the trainer on the first day. Please make sure that all footwear is completely enclosed i.e. no sandals or flip flops.
